"Duc belongs to the generation of painters who were born and grew up in peace time and fully enjoyed the pleasure of peace as well as the freedom and creativity in Vietnamese art under "Doi Moi" after 1986. Hanoi in Duc's paintings is not melancholy and nostalgic as in the works of Bui Xuan Phai or brilliant with colours as the art of Le Thanh Son. Rather, it is a Hanoi viewed from novel, realistic, bold and defiant angles. Here are the poor alleys, quarters of dilapidated and cheap apartments with mossy walls and uneven window frames, awry fences exposed to sunlight, covered with flowers. And neglected clusters of trees with dancing sunbeams...
Duc's style is a rapid, direct and rushing technique with flat and wide brushstrokes thick with paint, very dense and coarse. The artist has turned the back streets originally poor and messy into an attractive image with the use of light and colours." (courtersy of Ms Bui Nhu Huong - Art Critic)
